Axel and his uncle prepared for their journey and they took guns, tools and scientific instruments. Martha, their cook was surprised when she knew that they were going down to the Centre of the Earth. She thought that the professor was mad. When Martha asked Axel about their journey, he pointed down towards the Centre of the Earth. But Martha thought they were going to the cellar.
أعد أكسيل وعمه للقيام برحلتهم وأخذوا معهم بنادق وأدوات وأجهزه علميه. ولكن كانت مارثا، الطباخه الخاصه لهم، مندهشه عندما علمت أنهم ذاهبين الى الأسفل الى مركز الأرض. إعتقدت مارثا أن البروفيسور مجنون. وعندما سألت مارثا أكسيل عن رحلتهم أشار أكسيل أسفل الى مركز الأرض، ولكن إعتقدت مارثا انهم ذاهبون الى المخزن.

They set off on their journey and traveled by the steamer to Copenhagen, and from there they sailed north to Iceland. In Copenhagen, they met a Danish scientist who gave them letters of introduction to the most important men in Iceland. One of them was Dr Fridrickson.
إنطلقوا فى رحلتهم وسافروا بالباخره الى كوبنهاجن ومن هناك أبحروا شمالاً الى أيسلندا. فى كوبنهاجن قابلوا عالِم دانماركى أعطاهم خطابات توصيه الى أكثر الرجال أهميه فى أيسلندا، كان منهم الدكتور فريدريكسون.

The sea was very rough and professor was seasick for most of the voyage. They arrived in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland but the professor didn't want to explore Reykjavik and said that the most interesting part of Iceland was under the ground.
كان البحر هائج جداً وكان البروفيسور مصاب بدوار البحر معظم الرحله. وصلوا الى عاصمة أيسلندا "Reykjavik" ولكن لم يريد البروفيسور إستكشافها وقال أن أكثر جزء شيق من أيسلندا هو تحت الأرض.

They went to Dr Fridrickson who was a very helpful man. Professor told him that he was interested in exploring Iceland's geology. Dr Fridrickson gave them information about Sneffels. He arranged for a guide called Hans to take them to Sneffels. They liked Hans who was a big man who moved slowly and didn't say much.
ذهب أكسيل وعمه الى الدتكور فريدريكسون التى كان شخصيه متعاونه جداً معهم. أخبره البرفيسور أنه مهتم بإستكشاف جيولوجية أيسلندا. أعطاهم دكتور فريدريكسون معلومات عن "Sneffels" ورتب لهم مرشد يدعى هانس ليأخذهم الى "Sneffels". أكسيل وعمه أحبوا هانس الذى كان عباره عن رجل كبير يتحرك ببطء ويتحدث قليلاً.

Hans led them out of Reykjavik and passed through the countryside. The Icelanders were always pleased to see them, they gave them the best food and drink and they refused professor's offers of money. After three more days they reached the base of Sneffels. Because of Axel's fears, he had a terrible dream. He dreamed that he was inside a volcano. There was a great explosion and he was shot up out the volcano like a rocket.
قادهم هانس الى خارج مدينة "Reykjavik" وعبروا خلال الريف. كان سكان جزيرة أيسلندا دائماً فى غاية السرور لرؤية أكسيل وعمه وقدموا لهم أفضل الأطعمه والمشروبات ولكنهم رفضوا النقود التى عرضها عليهم البروفيسور. بعد ثلاثة أيام أخرى وصلوا الى قاعدة "Sneffels" وبسب مخاوف أكسيل، شاهد أثناء نومه حلم مزعج كان عباره عن أنه كان داخل بركانوكان هناك إنفجار عظيم نتج عنه أن أكسيل قُذف الى خارج البركان مثل الصاروخ.

They climbed Sneffels in the next day and reached the top of the mountain. They camped at the edge of the crater. They were more than one thousand five hundred metres above sea level. The three men "professor – Axel – Hans" entered the crater of Sneffels which was shaped like an ice-cream cone. The opening was more than A kilometer wide and it was about six hundred metres deep. They used ropes and were standing at the bottom of the crater.
وفى اليوم التالى تسلقوا "Sneffels" ووصلوا الى قمة الجبل وبعد ذلك عسكروا على حافة فوهة البركان فكانوا على ارتفاع 1500 متر فوق مستوى سطح البحر. دخلوا الثلاثة رجال فوهة البركان التى كان شكله عباره عن مثلجات مخروطية الشكل. كان عرض الفتحه أكثر من كيلو متر وعمقها حوالى 600 متر. استخدموا الحبال وجلسوا واستراحوا فى أسفل الفوهه.

At the bottom there were three chimneys. Each of these was about thirty metres wide. They started to explore them, and then professor shouted pointing to a large rock with some marks on it. The marks were letters and they spelled the name of Arne Saknussemm.
كان هناك ثلاثة شقوق جبليه فى أسفل البركان، كل منهم كان عرضه حوالى 30 متر فبدؤا تفجير هذة الشقوق. بعد ذلك صرخ البرفيسور وهو يشير الى صخره كبيره عليها بعض العلامات التى كانت حروف تُكون اسم"Arne Saknussemm" .

They had to discover which of the three chimneys Arne had descended. It was the chimney which the shadow of Scartaris touched at the end of June, but there was no shadow today because there was no sun. It was June 25th so, they had to wait until the end of June.
كان يجب عليهم أن يكتشفوا أى من الثلاثة شقوق نزل فيها ارن. هذا الشق الجبلى هو الذى يأتى عليه ظلال جبل "Scartaris" فى نهاية شهر يونيو. ولكن لم يكن هناك ظل فى هذا اليوم لأن الشمس لم تكن مشرقه فكان هذا اليوم هو الخامس والعشرون من شهر يونيو لذلك كان يجب عليهم أن ينتظروا حتى نهاية يونيو.
